July 7, 1921 - October 18, 2009 Peacefully, on Sunday, October 18, 2009, Douglas passed away at the Grace Hospital at the age of 88 years. Douglas is lovingly remembered by the love of his life Margaret, his wife of 67 years, his son Douglas, Jr., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Douglas served in the Second World War with the R.C.A.F. as an airframe mechanic for four years in England, Holland and Belgium. After the war, he worked for the DVA as a purchasing agent followed by the Misericordia Hospital. He retired from the St. Boniface Hospital as the Director of Purchasing in 1979. Douglas was a Grand Master with the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed golfing, music, dancing and had fond memories of Grand Beach. Douglas will always be remembered as a true gentleman with a kind and gentle soul to all that knew him. His kind heart and deep inner strength touched the lives of many family and friends as well as the family pets whom he adored. The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Deer Lodge Centre as well as Dr. George and the staff at the Grace Hospital for their care and compassion. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society of Canada, Manitoba Division, 100-1465 Buffalo Place, Winnipeg, MB R3T 1L8 or the charity of ones choice.
