MARGARET FIDDLER After a struggle with Parkinson's disease, Margaret Fiddler, aged 89, passed away, Friday, October 16, 2009, at Golden West Centennial Lodge. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Eleanor Ashton, her first husband, Capt. Gordon Alexander (Canadian Pacific Airlines), and her second husband Donald Fiddler. She is survived by her son Bruce Alexander, his wife Linda, granddaughters, Jennifer and Kristine, and her sister, Bernice Ashton of Ottawa. Margaret was born and raised in St. James and educated at Linwood School and Success Business College. She began employment as a legal secretary. Soon after the outbreak of the Second World War she joined the first group of women to be trained in Air Traffic Control by Transport Canada. She served in airport control towers at Moncton, NB and Dorval, QC. After the death of Gordon Alexander, Margaret and Bruce returned to Winnipeg where she was employed as an executive secretary at Transair, Bristol Aerospace, and finally as secretary to the president of Red River College. Don and Margaret enjoyed many common interests. They wintered in Florida for several years and enjoyed many summers of fishing at their camp at Clearwater Bay, ON. They worked together to produce beautiful gardens surrounding their home on Deer Lodge Place. Margaret was always very involved in her surroundings at church and in the community. Family was very important to Grandma and Sunday dinners and holidays were a special time. Her granddaughters were her pride and joy and she loved to be kept up to date on their adventures. Recently, Grandma was a resident of Golden West Centennial Lodge. Our family is profoundly grateful for the professionalism, care, and love that the staff gave to Grandma. Members of the fourth floor team will be forever in our hearts. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Ave., across from Brookside Cemetery. A private interment will be held later. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations can be made in Margaret's memory to Golden West Centennial Lodge, or to a charity of choice. NEIL BARDAL INC. 204-949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
