Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryA dear family member to many; A generous friend to all! ANN JEANETTE (NETTIE) HAMPTON Nettie passed peacefully on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at the Heritage Lodge, Winnipeg. Born at Victoria Beach on October 5, 1933, Nettie just celebrated her 76th birthday. Nettie moved to Winnipeg with her family during the war years and while she lived and worked in Winnipeg, her heart and her real home was always Victoria Beach and her little white cottage where she had been raised. After 40 years Nettie retired in 1991 from her job as receptionist at the School of Nursing, Health Sciences Centre. She had already been given a 25 year service award with her never missing a day or ever being late. She loved getting to know and being a friend to the nursing students. A single woman her whole life, Nettie was devoted to her parents, siblings and cousins along with her nieces and nephews whom she treated as though they were her own children. You didn't spend much time with her before she started talking to you about her family. A card given to her on her last birthday expressed exactly how all her nieces and nephews felt about her: We were lucky to have you as our aunt! Remaining to cherish Nettie's memory are her sisters Pearl Bouthillier and Alice Watson along with her numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Nettie was predeceased by her parents, William and Kathleen; brothers, Ronnie and wife Joan, Roy, Russell, Henry and wife Arlene; brother-in-law Joe Watson; and nephew Darren. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Michaels Church, Victoria Beach with viewing at 10:30 a.m. with Nettie's nephew Ron Hampton officiating. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Randy, Kevin and Kerry Hampton; her godson Dwayne Lekei; Bill Lekei, Irvin Hildebrand and Herbert Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be her other two nephews, Henry Hampton and Terry Bouthillier. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Heritage Lodge Personal Care Home for their care of Nettie over these past several months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Victoria Beach Pioneer Cemetery Fund for the ongoing costs of caring and improving the cemetery. Our thanks also to the Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk who are in care of arrangements.
