ALVIN R. MENSCH It is with saddened hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Alvin Richard Mensch on October 18, 2009 surrounded by his family at the Rehabilitation and Respiratory Centre. At the age of 71, he was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Martha; brother Robert; brother-in-law Gerhardt Andres and niece Joyce Andres. Alvin is lovingly survived by his wife of 47 years, Lois; son Kevin; daughters, Karen (Warren) Pokrant, and Kirsten (Kelly) Switzer; grandchildren, Caleigh and Briana Pokrant, William and Dawson Switzer; sister Ruth Andres; brothers, Arthur (Angeline) and Gordon (Doris); sister-in-law Helen and their families. Alvin was long devoted to his profession, retiring after 35 years working for the Royal Bank of Canada. He was a selfless, kind hearted man, never thinking twice to reach out a helping hand. His life centered around his four grandchildren. Family always came first. Dad, Papa, you touched all of our hearts in a very special way. You will be forever missed and always remembered. We love you. The family extends their thanks to the doctors and staff at CancerCare Manitoba, Health Sciences Centre, Seven Oaks Hospital, and the Rehabilitation and Respiratory Centre. Their diligent amount of care, comfort and kindness they provided to Alvin was commendable and much appreciated. Memorial service will be held Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Sherwood Park Lutheran Church, 7 Tudor Cr., Winnipeg, officiated by Pastor Tom Lurvey. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba or Sherwood Park Lutheran Church if so desired.
