Art was born on February 12, 1917, in the Moosehorn District. He attended school and then helped on the family farm for a while. He then went mining in Val Dor, Quebec and Flin Flon, MB. Art returned to Moosehorn and was married on October 6, 1944. He and Ella celebrated 65 years of marriage this past year. Art and Ella farmed for some time and then the family moved to Atikokan for two years from 1956 to 1958 where Dad mined once again. They returned to Moosehorn and farmed until retirement. Dad and Mom moved to their newly built home in the town of Moosehorn in 1979. Even though he moved to town, Dad continued to help his son on the farm until he turned 88 years of age. Dad was an active Peace Lutheran Church member, he served on church council, the RM of Grahamdale council and the Kiesman District School Board. He was one of the first members of the Moosehorn Credit Union. Dad and Mom did some travelling taking them to Germany, Hawaii, the East Coast and Alaska. Dad enjoyed the outdoors. He loved cutting wood, hunting and ice fishing. Once retired, he took up woodworking and made many wooden bowls which he loved to show off and give to family and friends. Papa always made time for the grandchildren when they were around - playing games, giving bike rides and fishing. He was proud to attend as many of their functions as he could.
