VERA JANE FRASER (nee DUNCAN) 1919 - 2009 Vera passed away peacefully on Friday, October 16, 2009 at the age of 90 with her two daughters by her side. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Left to mourn her passing are her loving daughters, Georgina and Lesley, grandchildren, Brent (Marcia), Michelle (Jason) and Curtiss, great-grandchild Kaylen, sister-in-law Sally, nieces, Valerie (Garry), Arlene (Dave), Jan (Eric), Lorraine and cousins, Mary (Lloyd) and Vilma. She was predeceased by her daughter Heather, husband Herb, sister Norma and son-in-law Don and niece Patti. Mom was born on March 4, 1919 in Aberdeen, Scotland immigrating to Canada with her parents in 1921. She was raised in Winnipeg and spent most of her life there except for a brief period in Montreal. While growing up, she spent much of her time helping around the house as her mother became completely blind by the time Mom was eight. After graduating from the Scientific School of Beauty in 1938, she worked as a hairdresser in various salons throughout the city. She married Herb Fraser in 1944 and they lived most of their married life in St.Vital. Once married, Mom became a full-time homemaker until we were in school. She then returned to work at Eaton's until she retired in 1970. Mom was a very proud of her three grandchildren and was always present at their hockey games, dance recitals, concerts, swimming lessons and graduations. Mom always greeted everyone with a big smile and a twinkle in her eye. Mom enjoyed drinking tea and reading tea leaves for her friends and family. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and always capped the day off with a wee shot of her favourite brandy. The family would like to send a special thank-you to the caring staff at Meadowood Manor who looked after her for the final six years of her life. A celebration of Vera's life will be held on Friday, October 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. A private interment will be held prior to the service.
