Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOPHIE (JOSIE) CHRISTIAENS It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother and nana on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the age of 96. Sophie is survived by her son Gordon, daughter Joan Matkaluk (Gary), granddaughter Tammy Burr (Joel), grandson Regan Matkaluk, brother Sam Dumka (Irene) of Victoria, B.C. and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband Jules, daughter-in-law Ingrid, parents Andrew and Ann Dumka, four sisters and three brothers. Mom was born on November 10, 1912 on the farm in Walkleyburg, Manitoba. She came to Winnipeg as a young girl and held various jobs. During that time she met her husband Jules and married on October 3, 1936, a marriage that lasted fifty years. Mom lived in the family home on Lansdowne Avenue until she was 91. She then moved into the Ivan Franko Manor for five years where she enjoyed making new friends, playing bingo and cards. As her health started to deteriorate Mom moved into the Vista Park Lodge and resided there until her passing. The family wishes to thank the staff on the 2nd floor at the Vista Park Lodge for the wonderful care that was given Mom. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with viewing prior at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 24 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Burrin Avenue with Rev. Fr. Henryk Laciak officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main St. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
