Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER SKUBA April 1, 1923 - October 20, 2009 It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of a dear husband, father and grandfather, Walter Skuba on October 20 at 86 years of age. Walter was born in Skalat, Poland on April 1, 1923, the second son of John and Maria Skuba. He immigrated to Canada in 1938 with his family at the age of 15. The family settled in Zbaraz, Manitoba, later moving to a farm in Broad Valley, MB. In 1952 he married Anne Kolbuck of Fisher Branch, MB and they made their home in Winnipeg. In the early 1950's Walter started his own construction business, he then worked for the CNR for a short while, finally settling into the hairstyling field. He opened Skuba's Hairstyling in 1971. Because Walter loved people, his staff and his clients, his business thrived. He was an active member of the Manitoba Master Barbers Association and was awarded a lifetime membership in this organization. Walter was a devoted husband to Anne, father to Julie, Patricia and Elizabeth and grandfather to his precious granddaughter Laurel. He stressed the importance of education. He was proud that all of his children went on to obtain university degrees and successful careers. Walter enjoyed gardening, working in his yard and home improvements. He was very creative, designing and building many projects including a family camper, which the family enjoyed for many years. Walter's passion was ballroom dancing. He and Anne were long time members of the Westview Dance Club. Walter is survived by his loving wife Anne of 57 years; his daughters, Julie, Patricia (Larry) and Elizabeth (Paul); his granddaughter Laurel (Shaun); brother Morris; his sisters-in-law, Jennie Skuba and Frances Sigurdson; brother-in-law Victor Klus; in-laws, Kay Chudy and John and Elsie Kolbuck, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins in Poland. Walter was predeceased by his parents John and Maria Skuba; his parents-in-law, Paul and Mary Kolbuck; his brothers, Mike and Julius Skuba; his sister Emily Klus; his brother-in-law Bud Chudy; his nephew John Skuba and his niece Jane Sanders. Our family would like to thank all the wonderful people who shared their time, thoughts and supported us through this difficult period. We are extremely grateful to Dr. Teresa Cavett and the palliative care staff that were so compassionate and provided exceptional care to Walter throughout his illness. We also would like to extend a special thank-you to Larry Reimer (son-in-law) for his caring support to the very end. A memorial service will be held at the Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow at Fred Douglas Place, 333 Vaughan Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada, Box 26220, St N, BRM B, Toronto, Ontario, M7Y 4R1, or a charity of your choice.
