Date of Passing: Oct 19, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD ARMITAGE HORNING (DON) January 20, 1936 - October 19, 2009 Peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2009 his wife Beryl at his side, Don passed away at the age of 73 years, at St. Boniface Hospital after a long hospital stay. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Beryl, children Krista (Vince), Boyd; grandchildren Bryce, Logan, Harley and Dylan; brothers Jack (Lill), Bill (Annette) and sisters-in-law Dolores and Beverley (George); as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Born in Girvin, Saskatchewan, Don spent his youth in Simpson with his life long friends and two brothers. After entering the Canadian Air force and training in telecommunications Don met Beryl Loewen in Goderich, Ontario and they fell in love and, after a short courtship, were married September 26, 1964. Together they raised their family in The Pas and Thompson where Don continued his 35-year career as a Telecommunications Manager with Transport Canada. After a short time in Winnipeg he retired in 1994. Don was active in his community and served in Rotary for many years serving as club president and receiving his Paul Harris Fellow. He enjoyed playing sports, especially hockey and curling, and is very proud to see his son and his grandchildren follow in his footsteps with their love of the games. Don was a kind and generous man who had an easy smile and a twinkle in his eye. Friends and family always surrounded him because people enjoyed being with him. In later years his health kept him from spending more time with those he loved. The family wishes to thank all of the staff, especially the nurses, at St. Boniface Hospital and Concordia Hospital over these past four months for their care and compassion. A service honouring his life will be held on Saturday, October 24 at 1:00 p.m. at Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross or a charity of ones choice. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
