WALTER HENNEY Walter Henry Henney, widower of Lillian (nee Schwartz), died at Concordia Hospital, Winnipeg on October 24, 2009 at the age of 88 years. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Linda and husband Tom Lurvey; granddaughters, Elisa and Tina; sisters-in-law, Frieda Henney, Evelyn Henney, Bertha Kirby, and Joan Schwartz; and many nephews, nieces, extended family, and friends. Walter was born in 1921 in Winnipeg's North End, the youngest child of Louis and Katherine Henne, one of eight siblings, Albert, Ruby, Stanley, Louis, Elsie, Sid, and Alf. Walter was the last surviving. After high school he went to work for Winnipeg Photo, retiring after a 47-year career in photo-finishing. During the Second World War he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Corporal Henney served as a photo technician stationed in Brandon, Halifax, England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. Walter was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church. There, while serving as an usher, he met Lillian. They married in 1953. Together, Wally and Lil served in a variety of ways at Trinity and enjoyed the fellowship of that community for the rest of their lives. Their lasting legacy at the church is the historical display cabinet they helped develop for the congregation's 100th anniversary in 1988. Wally and Lil had a gift for hospitality and over the years hosted many parties for family and friends. Walter had a green thumb. Their yard displayed his wonderful flowers and their table groaned under his vegetables. Walter's kind and gentle nature was appreciated by all who knew him. We are thankful to God for all our special memories of Dad and Grandpa. We thank the staff of Concordia Hospital for their care; staff and residents of Kildonan House for their friendship and support; Pastors Ron Nelson and Peter Lurvey for spiritual care; and the church family, relatives, and friends for support and prayers. O Lord, support us all the day long of this troubled life, until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes and the busy world is hushed, the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then, in your mercy, grant us a safe lodging, and a holy rest, and peace at the last, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 265 Flora Avenue on Wednesday, October 28, 11:00 a.m. There will be viewing at Neil Bardal Inc. Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame on Tuesday, October 27, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church. NEIL BARDAL INC. 204-949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
