ELENA (HELEN) ANNA SCHOOR (nee Buccini) 1917 - 2009 Helen passed peacefully after a brief illness on Sunday, October 25, 2009, at the Grace Hospital. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Penny (Brian); three sons, Ken (Sharon), Fred (Delia) and Ed; three grandchildren, David and Julia and Jenn; great-grandchildren, Anica, Nolan and Jacob, as well as sisters-in-law, Jean Buccini, Eileen Berrie (Ted) and Violet Jolly and many nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her husband Leo Schoor, father Sam Buccini, his wife Maria and brothers Don and Art and his wife Pat. Helen was a rare individual who truly welcomed each new day with vitality and vigor. She practiced her profession as a seamstress for over 70 years, still a sewing perfectionist. Helen was a world traveller, bingo lover, racetrack aficionado and a competitive curler for many years who still enjoyed watching all the major curling events on television. Helen loved life and made friends easily and was fortunate to be living independently in her home with the aid of her son Ed and care and service providers, Kelly and Kim. Mom still enjoyed spending many hours on the phone with her sister-in-law Jean and long time friend Edith Hyslop debating the issues of the day. And she never liked to say good-bye, but so long till we meet again. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Intensive Care Unit at the Grace Hospital for their comforting care during Helen's last days. A celebration of Helen's life will be held on Friday, October 30 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with a viewing one-half hour prior. Interment and reception to follow service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen's name can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I wish that I had had the opportunity to get to know my aunty Helen more. It makes me sad that there was such a great distance between Winnipeg and Vancouver. Life is often much too short and goes by much too fast. I know my aunty Helen will be sadly missed as I know from the few times that I did meet her that she was indeed a great lady. My sister Glenna, my brother Rob and I all send our deepest condolences to our cousins. With Love Wendy - Posted by: Wendy Fitzpatrick (Family) on: Oct 29, 2009

  • Ken, Penny, Fred, Ed and all the family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Many memories of your Mom will be remembered. Even though we are many miles apart we have strong family ties. Love Aunty Vi. - Posted by: Violet Jolly (Family) on: Oct 28, 2009
