ROBERT MCCREARY Peacefully, after a brief illness, it is with sadness we announce the death of our father, Robert McCreary on Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg at the age of 83 years. Remaining to forever cherish Bob's memory are his daughter, Pat Adams (Gerald); sons, Ted (Rita) and Sean, as well as five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother David (Dorothy) of Chilliwack, BC. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley in 2003. Bob was born on November 17, 1925 at the Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg. He grew up in the west end of the city and attended Wolseley and Isaac Brock schools. At the age of 17, Bob stretched his age and enlisted in the PPCLI. While taking advanced training at Shilo, his age came to light and he was given an honourable discharge. When he turned 18, Bob enlisted in the RCAF and later served overseas. At the end of the war, he remained in the RCAF as an aircraft electrician. In 1951 he joined the Winnipeg Police Department and served 34 years before retiring as a Sergeant in the vice division in 1985. Bob greatly enjoyed his Masonic affiliation, becoming a member of Capitol Lodge in 1974. He became master of the lodge in 1980, and later was elected District Deputy Grand Master of the 13th Masonic District of which he was extremely proud. He had also been a member of Scottish Rite and the Oriental Band of the Shrine. In compliance with Bob's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Dad had a great love of dogs and horses and requested that any donations made to a charity in his name, be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3.
