EDNA FLORENCE HUNTER October 11, 1936 - November 1, 2009 It is with great sadness and with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Edna Florence Hunter, on Sunday, November 1, at Riverview Health Centre. Edna will be missed by her sons, Kieran (Allison) and Perry; her grandchildren, Kristjan and Ian, Rachel and Joshua; her beloved great-grandchild Logan; her brother Perry (Jeannie) her sister-in-law Margaret (Rab); and her brother-in-law Brian (Ann) and extended family and many friends in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Northern Ireland and in her winter home of Pinitas, Texas. She was predeceased by her husband Bobby in 2003. Edna was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on October 11, 1936. She emigrated to Winnipeg on July 8, 1973 and became a Canadian citizen within a few years, reveling in the life being in Canada afforded her and her family. Shortly after arriving Edna began working at Eaton's, in the Sales Audit department, a career she would follow at a variety of locales around Winnipeg until she retired in 1995. Mum was an active member of many organizations where she volunteered, organized and made many close friends who still form her posse of sisters'. Among these were The Winnipeg Irish Club, The Canadian Legion, The Order of the Eastern Star, and of course the Red Hats. Mum had a wonderful disposition which enabled her to support everyone's point of view and to endear her to all who knew her. Mum loved to travel and spent many of her last years with Dad traveling to hot places around the Caribbean with many of their close friends. After Dad's passing Mum didn't lose the wanderlust and her dislike of winter so she has spent those years traveling to Pinitas, Texas where she had her wee trailer.' She always left shortly after Christmas and somehow managed to navigate her way. As she was fond of saying, I'll just take my time, I'm not in a rush to get there. This is a fitting motto for how Mum lived her life. The family would like to thank the staff of CancerCare Manitoba, and especially the wonderful palliative care she was given by the staff of Riverview Health Centre. We would also like to thank her many friends who were so supportive of her. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at The Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Avenue West. A reception will be held immediately following at the Transcona Legion on Regent Avenue. In lieu of flowers, those who would like to make a donation in Edna's memory may give to the Riverview Health Centre.
