JANET MARGARET BETTNER (nee BARR) Peacefully on October 29, 2009 at the Riverview Health Centre Jean passed away. Born March 23, 1926 in Kingston, Ontario she came to Winnipeg shortly thereafter with her family. An excellent student, she was unable to pursue higher education but education nonetheless remained very important to her and she conveyed that to her son and grandchildren. Never blessed with robust health she was essentially a stay at home mom where she was the family organizer, making sure that her husband's work schedule was accommodated and everything was ready on Friday's so there would be no delay in getting away to the cottage at Nutimik Lake. She loved the birds and animals, fishing and taking the boat out to cruise the lake and socializing with neighbors. She loved opera, classical music, and theatre, was a voracious reader and had an encyclopedic knowledge of and love for football. Jean was predeceased by her husband Bob in 1983, sisters Bette, Anne and Doris and brother Jack. She is survived by sister Isabel and brothers Charlie and Bobbie and her son Bob, daughter-in-law Cathy, and much loved grandchildren Jennifer and Jonathon who she was very proud of and encouraged greatly. A celebration of Jean's life will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson Funeral Home. Flowers gratefully declined instead, donations in Jean's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
