DOROTHY ANNA BEWSKI (nee SUTHERLAND) September 17, 1937 - October 31, 2009 On October 31, 2009 at the age of 72, Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep after a brief battle with cancer. Mom was predeceased by her husband John and son-in-law Phil in October 1979; her father Donald and her mother Dorothy. Mom is survived by her daughters, Lorraine (Rory) and Sandy (Larry); grandchildren, Wade (Kristine), Lisa (Brian), Kristy (Kevin) and Kyle (Krissy); her great-grandchildren, Darius, Ava and Nathan. She is also survived by her brothers, Dennis (Barb) and Don (Karen) and nephews, Chad (Rochelle), Ryan (Alee), Daniel (Caroline) and niece Liana (Paul). Mom was born on September 17, 1937 in Winnipeg and lived here all her life. Prior to her marriage, Mom worked as a stenographer at the former Toronto Bank. After her marriage, Mom was employed as a secretary at the Police Department on Rupert Avenue. Mom later became a Legal Secretary and worked for prominent law firms until her retirement. After Mom retired, she became involved in volunteer work. Mom did the filing at the C.N.I.B. for two years and also helped out at their car raffles each year. She was a volunteer at the Concordia Hospital in the Finance Department and Executive Office which she thoroughly enjoyed and looked forward to doing each week until she was unable to continue. She was also the Secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Concordia Hospital. She became a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Prince Edward Legion and was on the Planning Committee of the Executive. She also belonged to the Sixty Plus Crafts Club of Rossmere Golf and Country Club where they met weekly to do crafts. Mom enjoyed baking for the bake sales and helping out at various fund-raisers. Mom had a special relationship with her daughters and grandchildren. She took both of her daughters to Las Vegas and Hawaii. Mom and Sandy flew to New York and took a cruise together. Mom won a trip to Hawaii and took Lorraine with her. Mom wanted to give each of her grandchildren their first airplane trip and be with them at that time. She did this by taking them to the West Edmonton Mall for a week. Many summers were spent between her cottage at Winnipeg Beach and her condo at Falcon Lake with her family. Mom was an avid Blue Bomber fan and had season tickets for many years. She ensured that each member of her family attended games with her each season, which gave her a special time with each of them. Mom's favourite past time was needlepoint and cross-stitching. Mom spent numerous hours cross-stitching individual wedding pictures for each of her grandchildren and baby pictures for each of her three great-grandchildren. Mom also worked diligently on family pet pictures, Kia for her brother Dennis and for his son Ryan; Maggie for Sandy and a lion picture for Larry. Honorary pallbearers will be Wade, Kyle, Chad, Ryan, Kevin and Brian. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow. Thank you to the Palliative Care Team on 3E at Riverview. We can't have those days back When we were all together, Thinking of thoughtful things You have said and done We will always cherish forever. Rest in Peace Mom Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
