RUTH LEONA YOUNG (nee Weger) February 10, 1924 - October 30, 2009 Peacefully in her sleep on October 30, 2009, Mom left this world to be with her loving husband, Lefty, who predeceased her on October 12, 1998. Mom will be dearly missed by her children, Janice (Peter) Awang, John (Mariette) Shaw, Penny (Mike) Leclair and Susan (Mike) Garvin; her granddaughters, Jennifer (Colin), Michelle, Shelley and Jenel; her grandsons, Ryan (Breanne), Scott (Jamie), Matthew, Justin and Kevin; along with her great-granddaughter Kayla. Ruth was predeceased by her brothers Alf and Rudy Weger and step-brother, Fred Weger. Mom is survived by her step-sons, Bill (Charmaine), Bob and Jim (Patty) Young and her sisters Helen (Al) Rose and Erna (Bob) Colvin. Mom was born and raised in Winnipeg. During the war she worked in a factory making planes for the war effort. She then became employed for Safeway and Loblaws. Her greatest passion was cooking and baking for family and friends. She was always asking what can I make? never wanting to go anywhere empty handed. She was an avid reader and crossword/puzzle solver. Ruth enjoyed gardening, flowers and a good round of bowling, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family and grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Ruth was a kind, non-judgmental and generous person who always took time for her family and friends and she will be missed by all! In keeping with Ruth's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, November 6 at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Ruth's memory to the Heart Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
