T. JOAN MCDONALD T. Joan McDonald passed away peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre on November 2, 2009 after a year-long battle with cancer. Remaining to forever cherish Joan's memory are her sister and best friend Marie MacDonald, her brother Don (Doreen), her nieces and nephews, Michael (Madonna), Pat (Joanne), Rick (Sue), Bill (Lois), Maureen (John) and Heather (Rob) and their children and grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents, Michael and Daisy McDonald; her brother Fred; her niece Patricia and nephew Stephen. Born in Dauphin, Joan grew up in Carman and Teulon, where her father was an RCMP officer. She settled with her family in Winnipeg in 1944, helping her parents care for her brother, Fred, and then looking after her parents as they aged. She enjoyed a 42-year career with the federal government, starting as a clerk with Unemployment Insurance and retiring as a well-respected Personnel Officer with the Public Service Commission. Joan had great style with a particular passion for beautiful jewellery and clothing. She was an avid curler and golfer and an active member of the Wildewood Club since 1959. She was a member of St. Edward's Parish for 44 years and of Mary Mother of the Church Parish since 1989. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2400 Portage Avenue, with Rev. Fr. Mark Tarrant presiding. A private family interment will be held in Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery at a later date. The family wishes to thank Dr. Harris and the kind and caring staff at the Grace Hospital Cancer Clinic as well as the palliative care nursing team and the Riverview Health Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, PO Box 2248, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4A6.
