IDA CANCHERINI December 15, 1917 - November 3, 2009 After a long, independent and successful life, Ida Cancherini passed away on November 3, 2009 at Victoria General Hospital. She was predeceased by her father Dr. Ippolito Cancherini, her mother Angelina Catelli, her brother Dr. Giovanni Cancherini, her sisters, Beppina Oldham (Col. A. Oldham), Maria-Louisa and Sofia Cancherini, and her beloved dog Camilla. Ida was born in Mollazana, Lucca, Italy and immigrated to Winnipeg in 1955. She worked as a nanny for the Gladstone family and then for the Children's Aid Society from 1963 until 1982. Her love for infants and children was unconditional and pure and her care was extraordinary. Ida had a special relationship with these children, but the bond she had with her granddaughter, Cassie Lewis was extra special. Ida's friends and family will always remember her for her fierce independence, intelligence and sense of humour. Her homemade wine and visits in her paradise veranda will be happy memories for all. Ida will be lovingly remembered by her family: Sylvia Marsico (Gerry), Angela Ferguson (Terry, Jeffrey, Louisa, Graham), Anne-Marr Ramsay (Colin, Julianne, Emily, Evan), Cassie Lewis (Kevin Henwood), and Yvonne Lewis (Murray). A special thank you to Henny and Hermie for looking after Ida in her home as well as all the staff of 3 South who looked after Ida in the hospital. Your care will not be forgotten. Ida's funeral will be held on Friday, November 6 at Holy Rosary Parish, 510 River Avenue at 11:00 a.m. and a celebration of her life will follow at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
