GEORGE DE PAUW Passed peacefully on November 4, 2009 at the age of 83 at the Riverview Health Centre, after a lengthy illness. George was born on April 1, 1926 in St. Alphonse, Manitoba. He received his early education there, and at Bruxelles, Manitoba. He went on to study at the University of Manitoba, where he obtained his B.Sc. Degree in Civil Engineering in 1948. After graduation he joined the Manitoba Department of Highways and Public Works as a resident engineer, later transferring to the Bridge Division, where he soon became Chief Bridge Engineer. He retired as the Director of Bridges and Structures in May, 1988, after 40 years of dedicated service. George was actively involved in the Engineering community, serving as President of the Association of Professional Engineers of Manitoba in 1974. George and Florence were long-time residents of the Crescentwood area and members of St. Ignatius Church. George was actively involved in both communities serving in many capacities including acting as president of Crescentwood Community Club, serving as a member of the St. Ignatius advisory board and a dedicated member of the choir. In his long retirement, George and Florence enjoyed summers at their cottage at Chalet Beach, happily working side-by-side, and occasionally taking time to sit on the deck and watch the birds or go for a sail. First a family man, George showed his love through actions rather than words. He was predeceased by his son, Mark, his parents, and his brothers, Armand and Huberto. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Florence, daughters: Linda, Lori (Philip Poon), Mary (Robert LeBlanc), daughter-in-law, Lesley, his grandchildren: Jessica (Pete Milhausen), Lauren, Benjamin, Stephanie, Charlotte, and Alana, and great-grandson, Jack. He is also survived by his sister, Armandina Cornock, and many nieces and nephews. He has passed from our loving hands into the loving hands of God. The family is grateful for the care provided by the Homecare staff, and staff of the Riverview Health Care Centre, Dr. K. Coates and Dr. R. Wong. Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Friday, November 6, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9 or a charity of your choice.
