Date of Passing: Oct 13, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE JACK VOGEL 1916 - 2009 Peacefully passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Lion's Personal Care Centre in Winnipeg. Born into the loving Vogel family in Pelly, Saskatchewan, the third of seven boys, he was predeceased by his father Joseph, his mother Mary, his brothers Joe, Mike, Tony, Charlie, Ed and Percy, and his daughter Patricia, and granddaughter Rosemarie. The only one of the Vogel boys to leave Pelly, he attended business college in Winnipeg. He made his home there for the remainder of his life, except for a time during the Second World War when, in 1941, he joined and served with the Royal Canadian Air Force, during which time he published a magazine and wrote and collected memoirs of his service. Retired from the Post Office, he invested in real estate and travelled extensively throughout Canada and the United States, collecting treasures everywhere he went and surrounding himself with them in his condo. He was actively interested and involved in politics and causes regarding seniors' rights, including serving as Regional Director for Manitoba for the FSNA, Federal Superannuates National Association. He donated to a great many charities for children, the environment, and the welfare of animals. He came to peace late in life and spent many wonderful times with his daughter Cheryl and his grandchildren, Sean, Kristopher and Courtney. He was a gifted and prolific writer and had a great many of his articles published in various newspapers. His humour was legendary, and his intelligence and quick mind a wonder, endearing him to those who cared for him and those into whose care he was entrusted. He is survived and will be sadly missed by his daughter Cheryl (Keith King) of Toronto, and his grandchildren, Kristopher and Courtney King, Sean Dube, Kelly and Ryan Trott, and Vonne Poulsen. Service will be held at a later date.

I only knew George for a short time, but I knew Sean for many years. Sometimes we would visit George at his house-a big one on Niagra st(winnipeg). I thought he was a nice fellow-with a lot of insights to tell us young kids ( at the time). If anyone knows of Sean's whereabouts, please drop me a line. Take care. - Posted by: Dean Neniska (friend of family (Sean Dube)) on: Apr 12, 2016
