Remaining to forever cherish Eldon's memory are his wife of 41 years, Brenda (nee Briggs); son Brian (Darlene) of Las Vegas, NV; daughters, Jenny (Jason Magri) of Beausejour and Tanya (Jason Stringer) of Winnipeg; grandchildren: Brody and Breanne Magri and Dylan Girouard; one brother, Arthur (Claudette) Girouard and sister-in-law Nora Girouard, both of Tracadie, NB; brothers-in-law, David (Julie) Briggs of Bathurst, NB and Freddy (Bill) Briggs of Surrey, BC; sisters-in-law, Ellen (Jimmy) Thomson of Vancouver, BC and Shirley (Kathy) Briggs of Moncton, NB, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Eldon was predeceased by his parents, Elzéar and Amanda (nee Drysdale) Girouard; brother George Girouard and in-laws, Ed and Kathleen Phillips. Eldon was born and raised in St. Isidore, NB. He was very proud of his Acadian Heritage of which he always took great pride in talking about. Eldon started his working career at a young age, working for many different companies that lead him to master mechanic and welder positions earning him the nickname Weldon Eldon in the mining industry throughout Canada. It was during his mining career that brought him to Manitoba in 1987/1988 settling with his family in Beausejour. Shortly after he arrived in Manitoba, he became ill which forced him into early retirement. However, this did not stop him from enjoying his life. Eldon loved to be outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, walking, biking (with his best friend Sheeba, his dog) around town or in the park and being with his family. His friendly and outgoing personality won him many friends. He was an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion #132 and Brother of the Chevalier de Colomb St. Isidore 7747 then transferring to local Knights of Columbus #5870, Beausejour. Friday mornings usually found him in Anola for breakfast, chatting and listening to his friends playing music and singing. He felt very special and honoured when his musical friends would visit him in the hospital, home or at the camper to play and sing for him. Eldon's favourite times where spent with his dearly loved and very special grandchildren, Brody, Breanne and Dylan. He took great pride in all their accomplishments. Whether watching hockey, gymnastics or videos of them, going to school activities or just talking with them. The proud expression on his face showed how much love they brought into his life and theirs. Prayers will be held on Monday evening, November 9, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 530 Atlantic Avenue, Beausejour, Manitoba. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday morning, November 10, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. also in the church with Rev. Fr. Owen Steeves, presiding. Interment will follow in the St. Mary Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if family and friends so desire, donations in Eldon's memory, may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6 or Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or to a charity of one's choice.
