PETER GUTWEIN Peter passed away November 2, 2009, at Selkirk Hospital, after suffering from COPD and ALS. He is survived by his wife Gertrude, his best pal his dog Par, son Michael (Marilyn), daughter Cindy, grandchildren, Dan and Mikayla, his nephew (son) Larry Mackie (Jean), his brother, Chris (Pat) in Minneapolis, and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Peter Sr. and Phyllis, and his brothers Phil and Lou. Peter was born in Winnipeg, on January 29, 1933. He went to school in Selkirk, growing up on the farm there. As a young man he played in a Ukrainian/German band, performing at weddings and socials. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and sang in the choir. Peter married Gertrude in September 1955. He enjoyed many hobbies and pastimes, loved working with his hands, listening to country music, and the music of Tina Turner. Peter was great with people, always taking time to talk to and get to know names and a little about everyone he met. Peter was the go to guy , because you could always count on him for whatever help you might need. Peter retired from The Royal Canadian Mint in 1989. He travelled the US with Gertrude for years, making many friends there. In recent years he enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles, looking after the yard, and puttering in his workshop. Cremation has taken place. A reception to celebrate his life is being held Saturday, November 14, 2009, at Canad Inn on Lagimodiere and Elizabeth.
