ANDREW RAAEN January 11, 1917 - October 22, 2009 On Thursday, October 22, 2009, Andy Raaen of Neepawa passed away at the age of 92 years at the Neepawa Hospital. He will be remembered by his wife of 69 years, Velva; his three children, Shirley Thom, Larry (Carrol) Raaen, and Karen (Tom) Wilson; his seven grandchildren, Joan Raaen, Blaine (Sue) Raaen, Shane Thom, Sandi (Devin) Jarvis, Andrea (Kevin) Sandstrom, Sherri Thom, and Nikki Wilson; his eight great-grandchildren, Arden Raaen, McKenna, Dawson, and Anisten Thom, Baillie and Emmett Sandstrom, and Brynn and Sienna Jarvis; his sister, Kaye Radabaugh; and his extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, Birgit and Anders Raaen, brother Tryg Raaen, son-in-law Gordon Thom, and sister Anne McPhedran. The funeral service was held on October 28 at the Neepawa United Church with interment at the Austin Cemetery. Pallbearers were Devin Jarvis, Woody Mutrie, John Perrett, Kevin Sandstrom, Chuck Terin, and Shane Thom. Andy was born in Norway and came to Canada at the age of seven years with his family to Shaunavon, SK. Andy and Vel were married in 1940, living first at Austin and then on the Arden Ridge, where they farmed for 44 years before retiring in Neepawa. Andy was a cowboy known for his love of horses and farming. The family would like to thank Dr. White and the staff at the Neepawa Hospital, White's Funeral Home, and Rev. Alan Armstrong and the U.C.W. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
