MARGERY IRENE FUNK (nee LYONS) December 3, 1940 - October 30, 2009 It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Marge on October 30, 2009 at the Gilbert Plains Personal Care Home. Marge endured a struggle with Multiple Sclerosis for more than 20 of her final years. Named Maggie by her siblings, she was predeceased by her father Harold, mother Lena and sister Patricia, and is survived by her brothers, George and Oliver, as well as her sisters, Lenore and Eveline. While mourning her loss, her husband Alvin; son Martin; daughters, Nadine and Heather; and grand-children, Lyon, Silas, Nigel and Hudson also celebrate her life. Marge was a University of Manitoba graduate, earning both a Bachelor of Arts degree, with English as her major, as well as a Bachelor of Education. After teaching for six years in Roblin, Batemen and Eastend as an accomplished and dedicated English teacher, Marge devoted herself to her family and community. Her focus was at home, and in the community with groups such as the United Church, Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, Figure Skating Executive and Band Board. Her quiet nature and constant gentle, dedicated support was the foundation of our family and will be warmly remembered. Our family sends a heartfelt thanks to the wonderful caregivers at the Gilbert Plains Personal Care Home, who made the last 13 years of Marge's life as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. A celebration of her life will be held at the United Church hall in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba, on Saturday, November 21 at 2:00 p.m. For those who wish, donations in memory of Marge may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. Cremation arrangements were handled by Sneath and Strilchuk Funeral Services in Dauphin, MB.
