Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHARLOTTE ROWEEN (BROWN) KENWARD 1924 - 2009 At Misericordia Health Centre Personal Care Unit, on November 9, 2009, Charlotte Roween Kenward, aged 85 years, passed away peacefully. Roween was born August 22, 1924 at the home farm near Vista, MB. She was the ninth child in the family of James Brown and Martha (Chesney) Brown. She grew up on the farm, which was two and one-quarter miles north of Vista. She attended Islay School, and completed her Grade XII high school year in Rossburn. During the summer she attended a six-week summer course for beginning teachers at University of Winnipeg. In August 1943, Roween taught at Rothesay School (between Birtle and Isabella) with students from grades 1 -8. While there, she met William Keith Kenward and they were married November 17, 1944 in Winnipeg, MB. Keith worked for the CPR, at various towns throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan for 39 years, prior to his retirement in 1984. Roween and Keith moved to Winnipeg in July 1983. Roween was very proud of her children, Lloyd and Nola, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished their visits, and spoke of their achievements and successes with great pride. She was especially excited by her first great-grandchild, Winnifred Astrid Lange, born February 20, 2006. When the second great-grandchild, Noah Wilkie Grinspun, arrived on January 3, 2008, there probably was no one more proud in the Park City Meadows complex where she lived. Roween was very active in church work wherever the family lived. She wanted to live her faith in everyday practical ways. Her leadership and organizational abilities were called upon for many events at Transcona Memorial United Church during her years there. She loved cooking, gardening, playing cards, watching sporting events and being with friends. Roween is survived by her son Lloyd and wife Terri of Victoria, BC and their children: Kimberley and husband Ralph Lange with their daughter Winnifred of Vegreville, AB; and Tracey Kenward of San Francisco, US. Her daughter, Nola, and husband Ken Wilkie live in Transcona. Their children are: Cara and husband Yuval Ginspun and son Noah of Toronto; Jana and fiancée Chris Derby of Winnipeg; and Betty Froese of Edmonton, AB. She is also survived by her brothers Carmen and wife Nellie of Rossburn, and Wilton and wife Marjorie of Portage La Prairie. There are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who will also mourn her loss. Roween was predeceased by her husband, Keith (1925-1985); by her parents, James Brown (1878-1954) and Martha Brown (1880-1962); by her sisters Sarah (1904-1915), Florence (Mrs. William Stitt) (1903-1993) and Mary (Mrs. Vernon Hamilton) (1908-1966); and by her brothers Walter (1912-1966), Samuel (1905-1995) and Alex (1914-2007). Viewing will be held Thursday, November 12, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. Funeral services will be held at the Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave West, on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Revs. Jeff Cook and Carol Fletcher officiating.
