ROBERT (BOB) WILLIAM FERBER After living for several years with the effects of a severe stroke, Robert William Ferber, aged 59, has passed away at Riverview Health Centre, with his family by his side, on Monday, November 9, 2009. Bob was predeceased by his father, Dr. Robert Ferber and his mother, Bernice Ferber. He was born in Milwaukee, WI and graduated from Brookfield East High School. He worked for many years with Western Electric (later AT T) in Wisconsin and Minnesota before moving with his family in 1985, to Winnipeg where he worked at the Manitoba Telephone System in Equipment Installation until he suffered a stroke in January, 2007. Bob made many friends all over the province while working for MTS. He always put his family first and was a good provider. He is survived by his wife, Lauranne Ferber, son, Michael Ferber, daughter, Mary Robertson (Phil), and daughter, Marcy Kustra (Ken). He is also survived by his sister Dr. Janelle Stumpf (George) of Oconomowoc, WI and his brother Tom Ferber (Debbie) of Waukesha, WI, as well as several nieces and nephews. Bob met the girl of his dreams in Langdon, ND. Lauranne later became his wife and the mother of his three children in 1973, after a rather brief courtship. They wed here in Winnipeg and began their married life by moving back to the United States. Over the years they had many adventures together and finally settled in Winnipeg. During his darkest days, after the stroke, Lauranne was by his side offering him unconditional love and support. He would literally light up when she walked into the room. He loved all of his children and was very proud of them. Bob spent many summers traveling to Big Cedar Lake, WI with his family and relaxing at Grand Beach at the family cottage. He spent many days gardening in his tomato patch and beautifying his yard. He would later sit in the backyard and enjoy the fruits of his labour with his two beloved dogs, Scotty and Tasha. Bob also had a love for cars and maintaining them. He could often be seen washing and waxing his Mustang, even in the dead of winter. He would often regale us with stories of fishing while he was working in Northern Manitoba and how much he liked it. He grew fond of our winters and kept his driveway free of snow. Bob was also an avid lottery player and liked to encourage others to study the numbers. His study habits did pay off for him in 1991 when his numbers actually came in. His ability to give anyone a nickname will be missed. Bob will be greatly missed. His family is extremely grateful for the kind and diligent care that Bob received while at Riverview. The staff of D4 was wonderful - special thanks to Judy W., Mila, Judy B. and Pat Yamada and many, many others. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 13, at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery) at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob's name, to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 0R3 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation., 200 - 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6.
