Date of Passing: Nov 09, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDALE F. ATKINSON It is with much sorrow that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Dale F. Atkinson, at the age of 81, on November 9, 2009. Dale is survived by his beloved wife Marjorie, children Terry (Rosella), Karen (Greg), Darryl (Jennifer) and Sandra, as well as his grandchildren Dylan, Kelsey, Vaughn, Victoria and Tyler. Dale is predeceased by his two sisters, Irene Faurschou and Norma Byrne. Dale retired from his position as Executive Vice President of FCA, Toronto, where he was employed for five years after a 39 year career with Air Canada. Dale started working for Air Canada at age 16 and obtained his accounting degree by attending night classes at the University of Manitoba. He not only graduated as a Certified Accountant, but received the Book Award in his 3rd year and the Gold Medal in his 4th and final year. While completing his education, Dale simultaneously worked his way up through the Air Canada organization, achieving executive positions in Maintenance and Finance. Dale and family moved back and forth between Montreal and Winnipeg and eventually retired from Air Canada in 1983 as General Manager of Finance, Winnipeg. Even in retirement Dale refused to relax. He worked as an Accounting / Audit Consultant for the Homestead Florida Condo Corporation for over 15 years. Dale and Marjorie have been enjoying retirement wintering in Homestead, Florida for over 20 years, his favourite place to spend time other than with his children and grandchildren over the summer months in Toronto. They were in Florida at the time of his passing. Dale loved to travel and vacation with his family and friends. Fondest memories are of The Arrowak in Barbados and KAB Villa in Antigua. Dale was a strong and honourable husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed and remembered for his sense of humour, his love of haggling for a good deal and his countless stories of travel experiences that he shared with and entertained all who knew him. We will cherish forever his good advice and the generosity and love he showed for his family. There will be a small outdoor Interment Ceremony on Saturday, November 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Innisvale Crematorium, (705) 722-3121. A celebration of Dale's life will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 15 at the Red Pine Inn in Alliston, Ontario. The family has blocked a group of rooms at the Red Pine Inn for those in need and ask that you call (705) 435-4381 to make reservations.
