The family residence for four years as a child is what is now known as Seven Oaks House Museum. Ethel attended Lansdowne School. Ethel began her working career at Harold Lyon Furriers. She also worked in the aircraft industry riveting during the war years. There is where she met Bert who she married in 1944 and they had three children Ray, Gerry and Nancy. They lived most of their married life in Charleswood. While raising her children, Ethel also worked part time at Sears. In her late 50's she attended an Adult Education Centre to obtain her High School Diploma. Mom always tried to keep busy with knitting and sewing. There was always a good meal on the table when you went for supper. She enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren and they will always remember her for her party toast . When one of the grandchildren slept over, breakfast always consisted of toast with honey cut into four squares, which Mom referred to as party toast. After they retired Mom and Dad moved to St. James and enjoyed apartment living, while taking trips to various locations including England, Walt Disney World and many cruises. Mom also enjoyed occasional bus trips to Branson and Shooting Star Casino. She liked getting together for coffee with her sisters and friends and always enjoyed a good laugh. If things were looking down, Mom would always tell you Never mind, it will all work out in the wash. Mom had a loving way about her that always made you feel better. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to whoever needed it. Nothing was ever too much trouble.
