JAMES EDGAR RUTLEDGE We are sad to announce the passing of our dear father and grandfather, James Edgar (Ed) Rutledge, on November 11, 2009 after a lengthy illness, at the age of 89. Ed was born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1920, and remained in Winnipeg after moving with his parents in 1923. He grew up in the West End and attended St. Johns High School. After serving in the artillery during the Second World War, he returned home to his wife Phyllis and family and attained his Chartered Accountancy degree, of which he was very proud. Dad worked many years for the Province of Manitoba, both in the Provincial Auditor's office and for Manitoba Housing. Throughout his life he remained devoted to his family and participated in numerous Church activities and volunteer associations, within Fort Garry and Winnipeg. During his time with us he was active in speed skating, golf, curling, gardening, bridge and relaxation at Sandy Hook and West Hawk Lake. He enjoyed numerous vacations with Phyllis. In Dad's later years he was proud and honoured to become a father-in-law and grandfather. Ed was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Phyllis, and his parents Thomas and Violet. He is survived by his son Bob (Georgina), daughter Dorothy, and grandchildren Sailota, Nelly, Pauline, and Philip. Also mourning Ed's death are his sister-in-law Kay, her husband Doug, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed's family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks to the doctors and staff at Victoria General Hospital for the kind care they extended to him during his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Anglican Church, 3830 Roblin Boulevard at Haney Street in Charleswood.
