MARGARET PEARL (PEGGY) DONALDSON (nee HODGES) It is with deep sorrow and regret that the family announces the passing of Peggy at the Concordia Hospital on Tuesday, November 17, 2009. She was surrounded by those who loved her. Remaining to forever cherish Peggy's memory are her children Reg (Barb), Sheri (Chris), Geoff; Grandchildren Morrie (Rob), Gerry (Chris), Kerri, Tom (Krystal), Jim and Ben; Great-grandchildren Cassie, Emma and Bo and other extended family. Mom was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, James R. Donaldson; daughter Morrie; son Jim Jr.; four brothers; one sister and her parents. Peggy was born in Warroad, Minnesota. The daughter of a rail worker, she lived and went to school in many different places. She left home at age 16 and started out on her own. She worked several jobs in the United States and made many long term friendships that lasted right up to her passing. Peggy moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba and worked for Singer's where she met future husband, Jim. They married in 1946 and had 59 beautiful years together. She worked as a homemaker and lovingly raised five children. Later, she was employed at D'Allaird's in Unicity shopping centre, where she worked until her retirement. After the death of Jim she lived with Reg and Barb until her passing. As per Peggy's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A private, family service will take place in the spring, at which time Peggy and Jim will be laid to rest together. The family would like to thank Bruce, a good friend whom they loved, for all the help he gave Jim and Peg over the years. The family would also like to thank the staff at the Concordia hospital for their care with Peggy in her last days. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Peggy's memory may be made to Winnipeg Harvest, 1085 Winnipeg Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0S2 or Siloam Mission, 300 Princess Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3B 1M3. She will be dearly missed and loved and will always be kept in our hearts.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I always enjoyed my visits with Mother Peg (and Father Jim) at Roseberry Street and Amarythn Crescent even after their daughter Morrie (my best friend) suddenly passed away at age 22. I felt bad that my visits might make them feel sad reminding them of losing Morrie, however, they always made me feel welcome. I will treasure my last phone conversation with Peg. I know if Morrie were here, she would be shedding tears missing her Mom and talking all about the sacrifices she made and her unconditional love for her family and friends. Mother Peg was a special Mom. - Posted by: Heather Willoughby (Friend) on: Nov 21, 2009
