Remaining to forever cherish her memory are her daughters, Janet (Rick) Praznik of St. Andrews, Evelyn (Roy Walker) of Winnipeg, Barbara (Maurice) Ewanek of Lethbridge, and Teri of Australia; one son Richard (Betty) of Gimli; grandchildren, Debra, Glenn, Joel, Amber, Chad, and Travis; great-grandchildren, Curtis, Nolan, and Trystan and nephew Elton (Bev) Borsh. Katie was predeceased by her husband Joe in 2005; grandson Jarret Ewanek in 2009; brother John; sister Helen and niece Pat. Katie was born June 16, 1920 in Lockport to parents, Ann and Frank Gusnufski. Mom married our Dad at the tender age of eighteen on September 3, 1938 and they began their life journey. They worked very hard, side by side farming and raising their family together. In 2001 they sold the farm and moved to Winnipeg. In 2008, Mom moved to Woodland Courts in Selkirk where she made many new friends. Mom took pride in her flower and vegetable gardens which she worked at very lovingly. She worked hard but lived life to the fullest, facing many health challenges over the last few years, one being a cancer survivor. Mom was also a beautiful seamstress, sewing all of her clothing, as well as for her girls. It was a talent that she passed onto her daughters. Mom was also a wonderful cook. When asked for a recipe her answer was' a bit of this and a dash of that. She made the best blueberry perogies. Mom had a great sense of humour and loved to have fun. Mom and Dad complemented each other in that regard. After retiring they had many opportunities to travel to Hawaii, Arizona, Las Vegas, Australia and New Zealand. Family was very important to Mom. She was the happiest when her children and grandchildren came to visit. She was a very special lady. We are all proud of you Mom. We will cherish your love, encouragement and your faith that we will all be together again. The family would like to thank Father Walter Klimchuk for his visits, kindness and blessings, Dr. Graham Fuchs, the nursing staff at the Selkirk General Hospital and all the Home Care workers that helped and cared for Mom over the last several years. In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place. Divine Liturgy will he held on Wednesday, November 25, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Mary's Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church on Donald Road with Father Walter Klimchuk officiating. Interment of ashes will follow in the Parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

"Vichnaya Pam'yat" to a classy lady. I've known Auntie Katie for over 45 years. She and Uncle Joe always made me feel welcome and I enjoyed her company very much. Doris Ann and I express our condolences to Evelyn, Barbara, Richard, Janet and Teri and their families at this special time. - Posted by: Myron Masnyk (Family) on: Nov 22, 2009
