LILLIAN JEAN AUSTMAN (nee ARNASON) Lillian Austman passed away on November 19, 2009 at the Red River Place, Selkirk. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Signe (Roy Holstein), and son Larry (Mardie), and her grandchildren, Jennifer (Kristian), Karen and Gerald. She is predeceased by her son Brian and husband Helgi. Lillian was born in Teulon, Manitoba to Mundi and Ruth Arnason. She grew up with sisters, Betty (Don Latta) and Kay (Ernie Madill). In 1945 she married her high school sweetheart, Helgi Austman and supported him as he completed his degree in agriculture. She continued to be the strength behind her husband in his career and in his volunteer activities. An active volunteer herself, she was involved in United Church Women, the Women's Institute and Rotary and founded and chaired the Seat Belt Survivors Club as a part of the Manitoba Safety Council. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 23 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk, Manitoba. The family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks to the wonderful staff at Red River Place for their respectful and gentle care of Lillian. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada or the charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
