SAMUEL (SAM) BROWN September 21, 1931 - November 17, 2009 It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Samuel Sam Brown, who passed peacefully on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 in Winnipeg, MB at the age of 78 years. Sam is survived by his soul mate, best friend and wife of 24 years, Marilyn; children Michael (Bev), Stephen (Shawna), Lisa, Donna (Jason), Karyn (Gerard), Lisa (Vince); 14 grandchildren, and sisters, Mabel (Ron), Vivian and Merina. He will also be deeply missed by brothers-in-law Ed Bell (Enid) and Ken Bell (Anne), and long time friend, Mickey Butson. His memory will also be cherished by all those who knew and loved him, and are too numerous in numbers to name. Sam was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Lucy Brown, and siblings Urban, Jamer, Pat, Roddy, Joe, Marion, Mabel and Gertie. Born September 21, 1931 in his beloved Cape Breton Island, Sam served in the R.C.A.F. for 21 years and was a valued member of the R.C.A.F. Flyers Hockey Team, who played throughout Europe. He retired from the R.C.A.F. in Gagetown, NB before settling in Manitoba where he later retired from the Provincial Government in 1990. He was a member of the A.N.A.F. Unit 283, and also served on their Executive Committee where he built many relationships and had many happy memories. Sam loved life! To know him was to love him. With Marilyn by his side, he touched so many lives of those who came to know him. Whether you were lucky enough to have a jive with him at the club, share a few beers, or tell a joke or two - you knew he was the real deal. In his retirement years Sam and Marilyn enjoyed many happy summers at Lee River and in the past few years at Wildwood Park. A celebration of Sam's life will be held on Friday, November 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the A.N.A.F. Unit 283, 3584 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. A special thank you to all of Sam's caregivers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sam's memory to C.N.I.B., 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 3M3. May the road rise to meet you May the wind be always at your back May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields, And, until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
