Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySAM SELLERS It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sam Sellers, our beloved father and Zaida, on November 10, 2009. He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Sheila, son-in-law, Shep Nerman, older brother Dave and younger sister Betty. Left to mourn his passing are his daughters Reesa Nerman and Michelle Chochinov (Harvey) and grand-children Seth, Lauren and Rachel. Sam was born on November 1, 1918 to immigrant Russian parents Morris and Pessa Sovetsky. He grew up in the North End of Winnipeg on Boyd Avenue and attended Faraday and Isaac Newton schools. He was a long time employee of the Federal Government in the Department of Supply and Services. There, he met our mother, Sheila Rabofsky, and they married on June 2nd, 1953. Dad's determination to provide for his family led him to hold several jobs for many years. In addition to his government job, he also worked for over 40 years at the Hudson's Bay Company, selling fine jewelry. After retiring, Dad enjoyed gardening and loved exercising at the Rady Centre daily. He was a lifelong member of Congregation Etz Chayim and was honored to lead the Wednesday evening services at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. He also enjoyed attending Shabbat morning services, and indulging in the kiddish with his friends. Perhaps Dad's ultimate joy was his grandchildren. He loved to hear of their accomplishments and was proud of each of them. We would like to thank the staff of Unit 6E at St. Boniface Hospital for the care and dignity they provided him. Funeral services were held November 12, 2009 at Congregation Etz Chayim with interment at Rosh Pina Cemetery. Pallbearers included Seth Nerman, Harvey Chochinov, Howard Nerman, Gerald Waldman, Ronald Waldman and Bill Weissman. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sam's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Jewish Child and Family Services, or a charity of your choice.
