WILLIAM (BILL) MCCLAIN Suddenly on Friday, November 20, 2009 at the Portage and District General Hospital, William Francis (Bill) McClain, beloved husband of Edna McClain of Westbourne, Man. passed away at he age of 80 years. Bill was born in Winnipeg and grew up and received his education in Madsen and Red Lake, Ontario. Following school he began working at the Red Lake Gold Mines. In 1966 he moved to Atikokan, Ont. where in 1967 he received his certification as millwright at the Caland Ore Co. The iron mine closed in 1980 and Bill worked at several mines in north west Ontario, retiring in 1991. In 1994 Bill and Edna moved to Westbourne where he has since resided. Bill loved camping, fishing, boating and family holidays. Since moving to Westbourne, he took up gardening and received enormous enjoyment in his yard. For many years, Bill was treasurer of the Atikokan Presbyterian Church and enjoyed his involvement in the life of the church. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, the former Edna Ruth Skaftfeld, who he married in 1956, one daughter Nancy, grandchildren Jennifer, Rebecca, James and Andrew, three great-grandchildren; Jordan, Trey and Katrina. Also two brothers, Jack McClain (Elaine) and Ken McClain (Monica) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; Douglas and Mabel McClain, his son Geoffery, and son-in-law Peter Russell. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 27 at 1:00 p.m. in the Westbourne Memorial Hall with a reception to follow. Interment will be in the Westbourne Cemetery.
