DOROTHY HELEN LIPPENS (nee Muir) Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, it is with deep regret we announce the passing of Dorothy Lippens on Friday, November 20, 2009, at the Grace Hospital at the age of 84 years. Dorothy is survived by her husband Richard of 33 years; children Carol (Doug), Michael (Adele), Barbara (James); stepchildren Donald (Joann), Frank (Gail), Bonnie (Walter), Barb (Bob); 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Marion (Bob); sisters-in-law Celina, Florence, Gerarda (Lorne) as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Nellie; grandson Devon; brothers-in-law Gerard, Leonard and Lucien; niece Eileen; nephew Lawrence, and cousins Ivy and Bertha. Mom was born in North Vancouver November 24, 1924 to Nellie Helen and Joseph Alvo Muir. In May of 1976 she married her beloved husband Richard. Together they spent many hours in their yard tending to the gardens or sitting reading in the gazebo on the patio. She loved her strays whether it be cats, squirrels or neighbourhood dogs looking for treats. Mom loved to go shopping and she and Dad could be found walking the aisles of Unicity where they would go their separate ways and then meet for lunch. Prior to her passing, Mom received the last sacrament and in keeping with her wishes no formal funeral service will be held. The family would like to thank the staff on floors 4 and 5 at the Grace Hospital for all their kindness and compassion in the past year. A special thank-you to Raymond Thevenot and Fr. P. Tinguely and Diane Ammeter. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.
