SAMI DAVID LUTFIYYA With great sadness, we announce the loss of our brother, Sam Lutfiyya, on November 23, 2009. Sam is survived by his sisters, Zana and Nawal, his brother Jamil, sister-in-law Dana, extended family in the USA and on the West Bank, and his very special and dear friend Natasha. He was predeceased by his parents, Abdulla and Billy Mae. Sam loved life and music. He began playing the drums at a young age and never stopped. His interest became his passion and ultimately his career. While still in high school, he put together a combo and worked professionally. He also ran a summer day camp for young musicians in the Fort Garry School Division. He played at Rainbow Stage and with the Winnipeg Symphony while he studied music at university. Sam worked at St. John's Music for several years, developing a local source of sheet music and instruments for school and community bands. Interested in music education, Sam authored a percussion methods text. Above all else, however, was Sam's absolute passion for musical theatre. For almost 20 years, Sam's business was to contract musicians for various shows and events all over the world. He relished the opportunity to travel and work with people throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Sam will be much missed not only by his family and friends, but by those he worked and played with in the musical community. A memorial and celebration of Sam's life will take place on Friday, November 27, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the East India Company, 349 York.
