GEORGETTE MARIE FORBES (nee LAFORTUNE) August 2, 1928 November 21, 2009 It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of Georgette Forbes. Georgette left us peacefully, Saturday morning November 21 with family by her side at the tender age of 81. She grew up in LaBroquerie, Manitoba, the 13th of 14 siblings. She attended school in LaBroquerie and completed her grade 12 education at St. Jean Baptiste. She moved with her mother and sisters to Winnipeg and enrolled in Business College. She worked at many businesses including Federal Grain, Imperial Oil, and Molson Brewery before securing a position in the finance department with Air Canada. She retired from Air Canada after more than 25 years of service. While employed there, Georgette with her husband George travelled the globe during their holidays. Fière de son héritage, Georgette s'engage à approfondir ses connaissances dans sa langue maternelle. En prenant des cours spéciaux à l'université, ceci lui a permit de faire de la traduction pour son employeur Air Canada. Although she had no children of her own, her love of children was evident as she cared for several children while they furthered their education. She was always thinking of others and provided care to her mother-in-law Mrs. Forbes, attended to her brother Edouard, suffering from Alzheimer's and supported several other sisters in their golden years. Georgette enjoyed family gatherings; a noted shutterbug she captured endless moments with her camera. She kept in contact with family members and friends either in person, by phone or with countless cards and letters. Georgette se rappelait souvent de ses amis d'école de LaBroquerie et de St. Jean Baptiste et se tenait au courant de leurs nouvelles en les appellant régulièrement. Une personne sympathique et chaleureuse, Georgette valorisait leur amitié. An active parishioner of Christ the King, Georgette was involved in the formation of altar servers, religious education and contributed time, talents and treasure to the social activities of the parish. She also promoted the Missionaries of Charity (Mother Theresa). While her health permitted, Georgette canvassed many years for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and other charities. She is survived by her husband of 53 years George E. Forbes, her sisters Marguerite (George Petit), Ida (Appelmans) and Anita (Balzer) and sister in law Fernande (Masse-LaFortune) and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Calvin, Percy and Robert (Rose) Forbes. She was predeceased by her parents Georges and Eugênie LaFortune, brothers Joseph, Marcien, Hubert and Edouard, sisters Irène, Berthe, Cécile, Jeannette, Thérèse and Yvonne. The family would like to thank Dr. Cummings for his compassionate care, Fr. Léger, csv, Norma and Bruce Dawson for their friendship and spiritual support. Prayers will be held Wednesday, November 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Christ the King Church (847 St. Mary's Rd. at Lennox) with viewing at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Thursday November 24 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church. Interment will take place at Woodridge Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
