Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKONRAD GORDON SIGURDSON Suddenly at his residence on Sunday, November 22, 2009. Beloved father of Bradford (Natalie), Derek (Krista) and Carrie (Oliver), adoring grandfather of Dana and Zöe (Martintown), Benjamin and Avery (Toronto), and Luc and Alex Konrad (Jamaica). Predeceased by his father S.T. Siggi and mother Gwen, and his grandsons Robert and Tristan Noort-Sigurdson. Dear brother of Thor, Kathleen and Richard, and uncle to several nephews and nieces in Manitoba. Konrad will be missed by Maree Sigurdson, Kathy Sigurdson, Valerie Smith as well as many dear friends and colleagues from the Departments of Foreign Affairs and Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Konrad joined the Department of Immigration and Employment in 1967. He served with distinction in a wide range of assignments abroad, initially as a Visa Officer and then as a Manager for Manpower and Immigration and subsequently as a Foreign Service Officer and Program Manager with Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong (1968-1970), Stuttgart (1970-1972), Manila (1973-1975), Tehran (1975-1978), Kingston (1985-1988) and London (1988-1990). He was assigned as Canada's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka (1995-1997) and again as High Commissioner to Pakistan with responsibility for Afghanistan (2001-2003). Konrad's professional responsibilities in Ottawa were wide-ranging. He worked on challenging issues including the negotiation of finance and personnel resource transfers from Foreign Affairs to Employment and Immigration, was Director General of Public Security, International Operations, and dealt with numerous personnel issues. He retired in 2006 as Director General of Consular Services at Foreign Affairs in Ottawa. A Memorial Service will be held in the Sacred Space at Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Ave., Ottawa on Saturday, November 28 at 10:00 a.m., followed by the interment. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Konrad's memory to CHEO or to a charity or special initiative close to your own hearts.
