MICHAEL PORCO It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Porco, age 89, announces his passing after a short battle with leukemia on Sunday evening November 22, 2009 with his family by his side. Uncle Mike's memory will be forever cherished and lovingly remembered by his sister Maria and all his family from St. Catharines; sister-in-law Helen; nephews, Frank Porco, Ken (Allayne) Porco, and his niece Carol (Rolly) Fisette; and his many great-nieces and nephews and their children. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Frank and Rose; his brother Guido; his niece Rosalyn Porco; and brother-in-law Peter Spagnuolo. As well Uncle Mike leaves behind to mourn his passing, numerous relatives and close friends. Uncle Mike was born on November 3, 1920 in Figlini Vigliaturo, Italy coming to Canada in 1951, and settling in Transcona with his brother. He worked for a short time at the Transcona CN yards, and settled into a career working for Joe Kalika as a sanitation engineer. Uncle Mike's passion was family of whom he was very proud and loved to spend time with. He also loved to go camping with his brother Guido and you could always find Uncle Mike on the nearest rock with a fishing rod in his hand. At all family gatherings Uncle Mike could always be counted on to find a guitar and start entertaining everyone with old Italian songs, and was never too tired to play games with the kids or take them to the park down the road. In later years, he always looked forward to trips to the lake with nephews Frank and Ken, or going fishing in Lockport with whomever he could get to take him. Uncle Mike will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends. Either you loved Uncle Mike, or you did not know him. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 505 Brewster Street on Monday, November 30 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church with Rev. Fr. Jan Spyrka presiding. Interment will follow at Transcona Cemetery. The pallbearers are Linden Porco, Domenic Marinelli, Joseph Marinelli, Keith Merkel, Richard Woroniak, Joe Porco, and Michael Porco. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Uncle Mike may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Expressions of sympathy can be made at www.knyshfuneralchapel.com
