Isaac was born in Winnipeg on August 22, 1917, one of eight children of Max and Bella Rosenberg. He grew up on Manitoba Avenue, a street which later became well-known for the successful people it produced. Isaac was one of them. After completing Grade 11 Isaac took business courses to help out in the factory, Manitoba Pants, in which his father was a partner. After the sudden death of his father, Isaac joined the R.C.A.F. and became a radar technologist, studying physics and math. With the end of Second World War, Isaac enrolled in the Commerce program at the University of Manitoba. While traveling on the bus to university, he met the love of his life, Anne. They were married in 1948, and had an amazing and loving relationship. They were truly soulmates. Isaac graduated from university in 1950, winning the gold medal for academic achievement. This was quite an accomplishment, as he had to contend with a crying baby (daughter Tyla) inside the house and the Winnipeg flood which raged outside the house. After graduation, Isaac worked as an actuary for the Great West Life Assurance Company where he was well respected by his peers and earned the designation of Fellow of the Society of Actuaries. After retirement, he continued working as a consultant and enjoyed the shorter work week while still keeping his mind active. In his spare time, Ike loved to garden. His crops of zucchinis, cherry tomatoes, beans, and apples were generously distributed to relatives and friends. He mowed his own lawn until he was 86 and took great pleasure from his home and yard. Ike was devoted to his family. He loved them unconditionally, keeping in close touch with his siblings, helping them in times of need, and offering wise counsel when asked. He enjoyed the regular Sunday night card games with his family. He loved his visits to Vancouver to visit his grandchildren for their birthdays and treasured their accomplishments. He enjoyed his 24 winters in Palm Springs with Anne, walking in the warm air, and playing bridge at the poolside and sharing his condo with his close family. He will be remembered for his kindness, sharp mind, and love for family. He will be sorely missed by his wife of 61 years, Anne, daughter Tyla and her husband Larry, granddaughter Eadie and her husband Jason, and grandson Sol. He was predeceased by his brother Jack, and sisters Betty, Jenny, Anne, and Ettie. He is survived by his brother Harry and sister Lil and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery in Winnipeg. Pallbearers were Larry Meyer, Sol Meyer, Jason Kaltenbacher, Lloyd Secter, Max Frank, and Jeffrey Frank.
