GEORGE ALEXANDER ALLARD February 22, 1930 - November 24, 2009 With great sadness we announce the passing of George Allard on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the Grace Hospital at the age of 79 years. Remaining to forever cherish George's memory are his loving wife Doris Allard; six children Ron (Val), Leigh (Shelley), Terry (Jill), Michelle (Dan Shebaylo), Brenda, and Remi (Pina). He was predeceased by all his brothers and sisters. George was the second youngest of the children of Louis and Alice Allard of The Pas, Manitoba. He received his early education in The Pas and then attended St. Paul's College in Winnipeg. He met Doris there and they were later married in her home town, Flin Flon. George and Doris were married for 59 years. Their six children were born in Flin Flon where George was employed as a stationary engineer by Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting. He became involved in hockey as a goalie while a teenager and was passionate about the game. His love of hockey continued over the years while he was a player, coach, and at times manager. In 1967 he obtained a job as principle administrator of hockey for Manitoba resulting in the family moving to Winnipeg. He was Executive Director of the Manitoba Hockey Association for 24 years. George was later honoured as a Builder by the Canadian Hockey Hall of Fame and The Manitoba Hockey Players Foundation. He cherished the many friends he made over the years. In his retirement years George enjoyed travelling, gardening, fishing, and grouse hunting. He was disappointed this year when his poor health prevented him from joining his sons on their annual hunting and fishing trip. George was a very loving husband. His greatest pride and joy were his sons and daughters, their spouses, their children and grandchildren. He was a man of integrity. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Blessed John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 3390 Portage Avenue at Rouge Road. Thank you to all the staff at Grace Hospital for their care. Special thanks to Dr. W. C. Shellenberg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in George's memory may be made to Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Suite 200, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
