ZOE MARGARET BUDD (JACK)
Born: Jan 10, 1921
Date of Passing: Nov 22, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryZOE MARGARET BUDD (nee JACK) Born January 10, 1921 Peacefully, on November 22, 2009 at the Deer Lodge Centre, at the age of 88, Zoe left us after being the heart of an extended family for many years. She will also be missed dearly by a wide circle of friends. Zoe was the eldest daughter of Keith and Mabel Jack and grew up with her two sisters on Rosedale Avenue in the Lord Roberts area of South Winnipeg. She graduated from Kelvin High School. She was married to Bill Budd in 1943. Some of her fondest childhood memories were of traveling to her grandmother's homestead in Carrot River, Saskatchewan. She continued to travel later in life with her sisters, Helen and Eulah, to visit their favourite parts of Scotland. Their parents had come to Manitoba from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, thus the Scots heritage. Though Zoe was a stay at home mother, raising four children, she was very active with UNICEF, The United Church, and worked hard for the Advisory Council for the Status of Women, once the family was grown. Predeceased by her two sisters, she became the matriarch of a large family with nieces and nephews in her council and large gatherings at the beautiful family home adjacent to Fisher Park, in Riverview. Her family loved her dearly, and in turn, were of great support to her in her days of failing health. She outlived some of her closest friends from her youth but leaves behind a strong group of women who were very special to her Zoe is survived by her eldest son Keith Budd and daughter Lorraine Kudlovich, along with eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She loved life. (Her name, Zoe translates in Greek to Life) She possessed a worldly and inquisitive mind, was artistic, widely read, and always ready for a good deep discussion on politics or spirituality. She touched many people with her thoughts and caring spirit. Her ashes will be scattered at Victoria Beach, a place she loved to be, close to nature. It will always remain a sanctuary to her and the family. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted for the Winnipeg Foundation or the Humane Society. A Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Zoe was wise and thoughtful. As her son Keith can attest, I often referred to her as my second mom. I'm sorry this took so long, Zoe, but better late than never. Miss you. - Posted by: Neil Woolston (friend) on: Jul 24, 2025

I was just thinking about Grandma's dear friend, Zoe Budd, and wondering what happened to her. I am so sorry for your loss. I know she was a big part of Grandma's life and I used to hear about adventures. I missed that after Grandma passed away and have wondered about Zoe and their other friends. Zoe once sent me a little book that turned out to set a course for my life. I think it was called Indian Treaties and the Status of Women. I ended up studying anthropology and now do research on First Nations issues for a living. You just never know when a thoughtful gift will change a life. I will always remember Zoe for that.
