GENOWEFA BASARAB (nee SZELAZEK) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing away of Genowefa Genia Basarab on November 26, 2009 at the age of 70, the beloved wife of the late Wolodymyr (Walter) Basarab. Genia is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Ignac and Zofia Szelazek and brother-in-law Jozef Soroka. She is also survived by her niece Joanna and husband Ramin Hamedani and their children Brian, Alexandra and Thomas as well as nephew Paul and his wife Nicole and their children Jakob and Olivia. Genia leaves many friends and family members behind in Canada and Poland. Genia was predeceased by her husband Walter, parents Emeryk and Amela, and sister Teresa. Genia was born December 26, 1938 in Poland and came to Canada in 1959. She married Walter Basarab in 1960. Genia loved gardening, birds, traveling, the beach and her family. Genia was proud of her family's success and accomplishments. Genia's warm personality and ready smile endeared her to all. The family would like to thank the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for the care and compassion they gave Genia. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. Rosary commencing at 9:30 a.m. An Oblate Father will preside at the service. Interment to follow in the Holy Ghost Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Genia's memory may be made to the St. Amant Centre.
