Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL BUREK September 11, 1923 - November 27, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, uncle and friend, Michael Burek on Friday, November 27, 2009 at the Middlechurch Nursing Home, at the age of 86 years. Mike will be missed and forever remembered by his brothers, John (Betty) of Toronto and Joe (Irene) of Dugald. He will also be mourned by his sisters-in-law, Anne of St. Vital, Mary of Colorado, Mildred of Hazelridge and Jean of Mississauga; brothers-in-law, John Taylor of St. Vital, Nick Pronyk of Haliburton and Mike Pronyk of Dunnville, Ontario and many nieces, nephews and friends. Mike was predeceased by his wife Nell in 2007; his parents, Stanley and Petronilla; sister Mary Taylor; brothers, Bernard, Julian, Casmer, Ted, Willie and Edward; sisters-in-law, Anne Burek, Stella, Annie, Mary, Natalie, Olga and Sylvia; and his brothers-in-law, Tony, Fred, Sam and John Pronyk. Mike was born in Tyndall, MB on September 11, 1923, where he received his education. He then joined his dad and brothers on the farm at Cooks Creek and Hazelridge. Mike was a very gifted jack of all trades who gave freely of his time and expertise to help his family and friends. He especially enjoyed carpenter work, having worked on construction in Churchill, MB and Terrace, ON. When he married Nell Pronyk in 1964, he built their home in Cooks Creek and resided there until three years ago when he moved to the Middlechurch Home. Mike and Nell kept an immaculate yard and garden. Because of their generous natures, they shared their vegetables with family and friends. For several years, Mike and Nell owned and enjoyed their cottage at Eleanor Lake in the Whiteshell. They fished for goldeye, which Mike later smoked and would share. In 1975, the Manitoba Good Roads Association presented Mike and Nell with the Birk's Dingwall Trophy for the Best Farmyard Grounds in Manitoba. Besides farming, Mike worked at Swift's for 12 years where he made many friends. For several years Mike and Nell raised miniature poodles. Many of these poodles found homes with family and friends. Mike and Nell spent 14 winters in Hawaii where Mike especially enjoyed the beach and going for long walks everyday. Mike's greatest hobby was playing cribbage. His crib board, a deck of cards and pegs were always on the kitchen table within easy reach when visitors would call. Mike, who loved music, would often entertain his family and friends by playing the violin. Mike was a member of the St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church at Cooks Creek. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the wonderful medical staff at the Middlechurch Home - Appletree Wing on the second floor. Mike's Homecare workers were very helpful, kind and compassionate. Also a special thank you to Jim and Adeline Kosheluk of Cooks Creek and Mike Pronyk of Dunnville, Ontario for their overwhelming affection and support. Prayers will be said on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church at Cooks Creek. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 10:30 a.m., also at the church, with Rev. Fr. Charles Fillion presiding. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Jim and Adeline Kosheluk. Active pallbearers are Jim Burek, Patrick Burek, Ron Nahnybida, Jeffery Kosheluk, Bradley Kosheluk and Robert Duda. Loving and kind in all his ways, Upright and just to the end of his days. Sincere and kind in heart and mind, What a beautiful memory he left behind!
