FLORENCE L. M. McEWEN (nee NESTI) It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Florence on Monday, November 30, 2009 after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Remaining to cherish her memory are Bob, her husband of 53 years; her daughter Susan Brennand (Bob); her son Ross (Angela) and their three children, Katelyn, Matthew and Ryan of Edmonton; as well as her cousin Nola Perrier. She was predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Nesti; and her sisters, Delma and Neilda. Florence was born in Winnipeg on May 10, 1927 and received her early education at St. Mary's Academy and Laura Secord School. Just prior to the Second World War, the family returned to Italy to visit relatives. Due to an unexpected serious illness and the subsequent death of her father, they were unable to return to Canada until after the war. The memories of growing up in war torn Europe in the early 1940s remained with her all of her adult life. Florence's entire life was devoted to caring for her family and close friends and we are all the richer for that. A funeral service will be held at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg (across from Brookside Cemetery) on Friday, December 4 at 2:00 p.m. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Our family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the staff and management of West Park Manor for the exemplary care and kindness provided to her for over three years. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations may be made in Florence's memory to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
