Herman was predeceased by his parents Gus and Lena Hein, his sister Mildred, brother-in law Stanley and his nephew Mitchell. He is survived by his wife Lydia, his son Patrick (Kelly), and daughters Christi Qua and Deanne Schnell (Sean). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, and one more on the way. He leaves behind one sister Lea (Russell) Baldwin of Elm Creek, brothers Alvin (Elma) of Winnipeg, and Edward (Sylvia) of Edmonton as well as many nieces and nephews. Herman was born on November 4, 1932, in Dominion City, Manitoba. He was raised in the Brunkild and Starbuck areas. During his younger years he enjoyed curling and playing baseball. He eventually took over the family farm near Starbuck where he farmed with his brother Alvin, until he retired and moved to Winnipeg. He worked faithfully at St. Paul's Lutheran Church as a Sunday School superintendent, teacher, and also as a board member. For a period of time he also attended the Elm Creek Mennonite Brethren Church and more recently the Epiphany Lutheran Church in Winnipeg. Herman was a proud Manitoban and enjoyed travelling around the Province. He thought it was important to know about where you live. Herman enjoyed road trips; especially on Sundays to go look at the crops . He travelled throughout Canada and many places in the United States. A highlight of his travels was a trip that he took with his wife Lydia to Israel, the Holy Land. Herman was an avid reader and especially enjoyed military history. In his later years, Herman enjoyed family dinners and gatherings with extended family. He loved visiting with friends and relatives and having company over. We would especially like to thank Dr. Thorlakson, and Nurses Nicole and Craig as well as all of the other doctors, nurses and aides that took care of Herman in the I.C.U., fourth and fifth floors of the Victoria Hospital. We would also like to thank Herman's good friends John and Jessie Froese for the many visits and helping Lydia. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Brunkild, Manitoba on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Leslie Poulin and Ed Mitchler officiating. The interment will be at the Sanford cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes, or the Victoria General Hospital Foundation.
