FLORENCE ELIZABETH HOLTOM March 4, 1917 - December 2, 2009 Surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Concordia Hospital, Florence Elizabeth Holtom passed away at the age of 92 years. Florence will be lovingly remembered by her family: Barbara and husband Tony Leonard of Winnipeg, their children Denis (Laurel) of Crystal City, Sue, Jackie (Mark), Monique (Bernie) all of Winnipeg; her great-grandchildren Casey (Kyle), and Amy of Calgary, Brayden, Erin and Noah of Winnipeg, and her dog Sassy. She was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Esther, her sister Lillian and Bill Gower. Florence was born on March 4, 1917 in Winnipeg, MB. She received her early education in East Elmwood and later attended Success Business College. Florence enjoyed 45 years of working at Merchants Consolidated. She began her career in an entry level clerical position and worked her way up to become a Toy Buyer. Her position as a Toy Buyer afforded her the opportunity to travel to many places in North America. She made many friends and had many fond memories of her working years. Florence became a pioneering business woman as she entered a male dominated profession. Florence was proud to be a member of Zonta International, an international organization of executive women. While preparing for her celebration of life we were happy to find many personal tributes that she received throughout the years from friends expressing their respect and admiration for her both personally and professionally. One of many quotes we felt captured the essence of Florence was, You are and always will be a real lady. Her retirement allowed her the opportunity to pursue her love of gardening, an inspiration provided by her father. She was an avid reader, cookie baker, volunteer and crafter. The family wishes to thank the Home Care workers who allowed her to maintain her independence and Dr. Cordova for the care and concern over the past several years. We would also like to thank the E.M.S. workers, Dr. Kress and the staff at Concordia Hospital Emergency for their compassionate care. Memorial service will be held at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 7, 2009. A private family interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 9Z9 or a charity of your choice.
