Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM SOKOLOWSKI Bill died peacefully December 3, 2009 at the age of 91. He was born in Winnipeg, December 16, 1917, the second of four sons to Alex and Taciana. His early childhood was spent in Sidney, Manitoba and he received his schooling in Rosser. Bill's first municipal position was in 1937 as Assistant Secretary-Treasurer of the Rural Municipality of Rosser. After serving four years with the Royal Canadian Air Force as Radar Technician in England and Egypt, he was discharged with rank of Sergeant in 1945. Bill was the Secretary Treasurer of the Rural Municipality of St. Clements from 1946 until his retirement in 1982. Bill enjoyed his retirement years and many road trips were made to Victoria to visit his grandchildren. Bill was predeceased by his brothers John and Steve (Iris). Survived by his loving wife of 58 years Jean, lovingly remembered by his children Eric, Janine (Don); grandsons Luke (Laura) and Dustin; brother Walter (Vicki); sister-in-law Isabel; brother-in-law Clarence Lyzun and many nieces and nephews. A caring, generous and gentle man who will be missed. Many thanks to Dr. Fuchs and the staff of both the Stonewall and Selkirk Hospitals for the care given to Bill in his final days. A memorial mass will be held in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church (269 Jemima St., Selkirk) at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 8 with Fr. Dado Parrenas officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Bill's memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
