ANDOR OSZTERMANN With sadness we announce the passing of Andor Osztermann on November 18th, 2009. Andor will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Edith, his grandchildren Evan and Lainie, and his son-in-law Gerald Rosner (Bunty Anderson). He was predeceased by his daughter Susan, whom he missed terribly. Andor was born in Budapest, Hungary on May 26th, 1922. He survived the Holocaust and the Hungarian Revolution. He was a determined and ambitious man, who with his wife and daughter, immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1957 (where cousins had previously immigrated) to build a better life. Andor achieved his goal of becoming an independent businessman as he eventually acquired a fleet of Duffy's Taxis. He was a wonderful man who lived a life rich in experiences and love. He was honest, hardworking and selflessly thought of his family. Andor enjoyed getting dressed up to celebrate special occasions with people he loved. He and Edith were proud to maintain a close relationship with their relatives in Hungary, and were able to visit them regularly. They also enjoyed travel to tropical climes. Andor enjoyed soccer throughout his life, and was also an avid tennis fan. Even when his vision declined, he continued to follow his favourite teams. He was charming and respected as a mensch by friends and colleagues. The family would like to thank Dr. Moncek and the staff of Seven Oaks General Hospital who helped care for Andor. His funeral was held November 22nd at Etz Chayim Synagogue. Pallbearers were: Gerald Rosner, Evan Rosner, David Garfield, David Halbrich, George Funk and Gabi Vamos. Honourary pallbearers were: Paul Barsony, Sandor Guttman and Sandor Veres. If so desired, donations may be made in Andor Osztermann's memory to the charity of your choice.
